What Is the NEET Exam?

NEET is India's single entrance test for undergraduate medical admissions. It decides entry into MBBS and BDS programmes and specified AYUSH courses, including BAMS, BUMS, BSMS and BHMS.

The National Testing Agency conducts it once a year in offline pen-and-paper mode. A single qualifying score opens both government and private medical colleges. So the exam carries enormous weight for every aspiring doctor in the country.

Nearly 20 lakh candidates appeared this year, showing just how competitive it remains.

NEET 2026 Counselling

Counselling runs through two separate channels, so you must know which applies to you. Check here.

  • All India Quota (AIQ): MCC conducts counselling for 15% AIQ seats in participating government medical and dental colleges, along with seats covered under its institutional counselling categories.
  • State Quota: respective state authorities conduct counselling for the remaining 85% of state seats.
  • Rounds: the process includes Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, and a Stray Vacancy round.

NEET UG Application Form

The application window for NEET 2026 opened early in the year through the NTA portal. Candidates filled the form online at neet.nta.nic.in with their personal and academic details.

A correction window then let applicants fix errors before the deadline closes. Those who appeared for the cancelled May exam did not reapply for the re-exam. The NTA also opened a separate fee refund facility for eligible candidates.

So the form stage was settled well before the June re-exam.

NEET UG 2026 Eligibility Criteria

How to Prepare for the NEET UG 2026?

Strong preparation rests on a few habits that consistently work.

  • Master NCERT first, since most questions map directly to its content.
  • Practise mock tests regularly to build speed and manage the negative marking.
  • Revise consistently, because the syllabus is vast and easy to forget.
  • Solve past papers to understand the real question style and weightage.
  • Track weak areas and give them focused attention each week.

Consistency matters far more than long, irregular study bursts here. Build a steady routine early and stick to it through the year.
